This might answer your questions: What I did was take your question a step further, by pointing out that many Chinese AK's have the 'evidence' on the trunnion, not the receiver. Someone could theoretically switch trunnions and put it on an unmarked or little-marked post-ban receiver and claim it as a pre-ban. Most likely that won't be happening.but I thought you were bringing up that concept again. What the others said, they are pretty much clearly marked if you do some research beforehand for what to avoid. One tricky example I can warn you of in advance is Sile Imports.
The pre-bans have model names like 56s-1, while their post-ban models(specifically ones caught during law changes) are marked 1-56s-1 with the extra '1' before the original model name. Other models from Sile use this extra '1' code to denote POST-ban status regardless of what the green-toothed lying gun dealer is trying to convince you of:).
In regards to marking on heel as a preban feature I have a Polytech M14 that has a flashsuppressor with bayonet lug that has serial number etc on side of receiver, what is intresting is that the first two numbers of the serial number are faintly engraved on the heel. I would also like to ask if Polytech copied the rear sight as both knobs on mine are marked WCE like a USGI one. I'm intending to have the Bolt replaced with a USGI one, other than that would any other modification be desired at this time.? I hate to rain on anyones parade, but only about 200 PolyTech's came into the US with flash supressors and bayonet lugs. I have only seen one true preban PolyTech. At a gun show in 1989 a fellow was walking around the show trying to sell his PolyTech.
If memory serves me correct, the finish was black park, not gray. Jack Lewis did a report on the PolyTech M14s, The Gun Digest Of Assualt Weapons/2nd edition, 1989, M14 in a magazine and the finish looked like black park also. If I had known then what I know now, I would have bought it. It wasn't until April 1994 that I purchased my first PolyTech M14s. For a long time dealers at the gun shows in the area were removing the faux flash supressor and replacing it with a GI with bayonet lug. I never heard of any dealer ever getting in trouble for doing so.
Chances are that if you bought a PolyTech with a flash supressor and bayonet lug someone changed it from the original.
I've got some interest in a Poly-Tech AK, but wanted to know if it's a pre/post ban rifle. It's in the hands of a person, so I want to find the specifics on it to be safe. Anyone know of a serial list for these? If any of this helps, it's an under-folder, very nice looking, have the serial number.
(PF-085##) The bottom stamp is 'KFS Atlanta' and has all wood furniture. From my limited knowledge of AKs, all KFS imports ended in the late 80s as underfolders. It's out of box, a little nicked on the furniture, he doesn't have a bayonet or anything he could find. (Rifle, sling, mags.) Obviously used, but no clue on how many rounds through it.
Just like to know what I'm getting and if it's worth it! It's it a Legend Polytech (milled receiver), it's worth $1200 to $1500 in 80% to 90% condition. If it is above 95%, it is getting closer to $1800. A stamped receiver Polytech in the 80% to 90% will be in the $750 to $1000 range.
Pre Ban Ak 47 For Sale
And more if in better condition. If it's a stamped receiver, it should have a folding bayonet. It's worth less without the folding bayonet if it's a Polytech. Different parts of the country command different prices.
I just gave you a ball park figure for what I've seen. I have a Polytech Legend folder with the Type 1 bayonet and several Polytech smooth backed, chrome follower mags, Chicom 6 mag chest pack, and all the paraphelnia it came with.
It should bring over $2000 looking at the prices on Gunbroker and GunsAmerica. Originally Posted By GoatBoy: I've got some interest in a Poly-Tech AK, but wanted to know if it's a pre/post ban rifle.

An UF AK is less than 26' with the stock folded. They gave me the run around because the 'firearm' was still functinal with the stock folded. I had to pin a brake on it and was pissed, but they wouldn't let me have it any other way.
(FFL transfer nightmare) I'm in NY, but I'm not sure if we have anything on that other than the federal ban. I will have to see if I can find this in writing so I can bust out the dremmel. Are you telling me that some MORON dealer in NY told you that it was verboten to have a folder AK and that it needed a brake pinned-on to make it legal?
Who is this dim-wit dealer? Originally Posted By ugotbit: I did run into trouble with a Norinco underfolder not meeting the OAL requirements of 26in, so it wouldn't hurt to bring a tape measure. He told me that I had to remove the bayo lug before the weapon was shipped to NY. A pre-ban Polytech! I ended up giving the buyer's money back and keeping the weapon for a while longer. WTF very depressing.
I have a pre-ban Norinco AKM-47S. Any idea what I have here as regards manufacture date or the like?
There's no Norinco star anywhere to be found, and these pics show every stamping on the gun. The on blurry one (I am using a borrowed camera, and could not retake right now) says as far as the serial number 'M0000664' and the reciever says: AKM/47S SEMI AUTO 7.62 x 39 thanks in advance! EDIT: oh, I forgot, pic 5 has nothing but the letters 'D and 'B' at that spot. What do you think? Last edited by Vergeltung; at 05:21 PM. Reason: clarification.

You have a beauty of a weapon, and yes the queen of a collection, i feel the same of mine. Also have a few other norinco,s i take out and enjoy good luckThe Norinco 56/s is the version used in that infamous Stockton schoolyard shooting 20 years ago. Those stupid anti-gun Kommiefornia politicians had to rewrite their AWB three times just to make sure that it was banned. These rifles were imported by a Norinco affiliate company called China Sports. Their warehouse in the Ontario area.

Guess I'll never know for sure, but, 'early 80s' is good enough! Thanks for all the replies fellas.:cool. As a resident of 'Kommiefornia,' I want to urge you and the rest of the members of the board who don't live in this state to: 1.
Hang on to those beautiful, CA-banned AKs. Norinco and Polytech are beautiful and if I ever get outta here, I'll be getting some of my own. The guy in Kommiefornia had the bright idea that (models on the 1989 Roos-Roberti s- list) could be converted to an OLL. The people who do this for a living warned him not to risk getting busted. It's just too easy, to sell it out-of-state for $1000. The Patrick Purdy special sold for $350 maximum in gun stores just before they were banned. Take the money and run.
Ready player one audiobook mp3 torrent. Thanks for then link. Looks like I have to register to see it, which I will do later. That's cool news!!!!!:DYou won't regret it.
I have been a member for several years and think it is one of the best forums on the net dealing with Kalashnikovs. There is an incredible amount of knowledge there. I have a Sile preban Norinco also but mine is marked 56S with the 66 in a triangle factory mark and serial number on the front trunnion. These are the usual markings that you normally run across. Your rifle is a beauty by the way! Reading this thread got me curoius so I pulled my 84s out of the box and had a look at it.
All it has stamped on it is. 56 in a triangle, 84s, the serial number, 5.56mmx45 and made in china.
I know it will have been imported into New Zealand in the 1980`s early 1990`s then we had a mass killing and they were banned unless you got a stringent license to keep them which I did in around 2004 and found this one still in the box with 2 30rd mags and unfired for around $400us, Its now had a couple of hundred.223rds put through it, its very well finished compared to my saiga M3 foward trigger. Now recently made a banned import as well. Anyone able to confirm its a Norinco??
